She went to the emergency room with a horrible stomach pain

A 51-year-old patient had an incredible number of gallstones removed by an Indian surgeon, setting a new world record.

Minati Mondal, the patient in question, complained of excruciating abdominal discomfort when she was taken to Debdoot Sevayan Hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal, in eastern India.

Tests performed by gastroenterologist and endosurgeon Dr. Makhan Lala Saha revealed that Mondal’s gallbladder was the source of her pain and acid reflux.

Dr. Saha was able to remove 11,950 gallstones following the hour-long laparoscopic procedure. The nurse took a while to count them all.

They claimed that while they did anticipate a significant number of gallstones, they never thought a new world record would be achieved.

“I was shocked to see the several stones we were able to remove from this patient’s gall bladder. I had no idea a gall bladder could have so many stones in it.

“Counting the quantity of stones with a size between 2mm and 5mm took my assistants four hours. We had to remove them in 50 minutes.”

To retain the item in the museum, Dr. Saha has written to the Royal College of Pathologists in London.

“I operated on a female two months ago who had 1,110 stones, yet despite the startling total, I learned that in 1983, British doctors had removed 3,110 stones from a German patient’s gall bladder.

But because the current number is three times higher than the previous record, I believe it can replace it.

After a two-day stay, the patient was discharged from the hospital and is doing well.

Gallstones are deposits of digestive fluid that have solidified and can develop in the gallbladder. They come in sizes ranging from that of a golf ball to that of a sand particle. Biliary colic, a painful condition caused by gallstones, is felt in the upper right portion of the belly.
