Pittie Left At Shelter In Her Pajamas Sits And Waits Patiently For Family To Return

For five years, Korra had a family who was supposed to be her forever. Unfortunately, she had some allergy issues that her family didn’t know how to handle. Eventually, it became too much for them, so they took her to the shelter.

When Korra arrived at Lancaster Animal Care Center, she was terrified. She was wearing pajamas, and she sat in her kennel, staring through the bars, waiting for her family to come back for her.

“She’s been very fearful since the day she arrived,” Evelyn Garces, a shelter volunteer, told The Dodo. “She was in the back of her kennel barking defensively with really wide eyes. I sat with her for a while that first day, and once she finally got close, she just started shaking. It broke my heart, but I knew then that I had to advocate for her.”

Once they took off her pajamas, the volunteers could see that poor Korra was on the skinny side and clearly not getting the nutrients she needed. They cleaned her up and got her on a proper diet, vowing to help turn things around for her.

Garces describes Korra as a work in progress, but one thing is for sure: Korra is so smart and has so much potential, and her new friends refuse to give up on her. The first step is getting her out of the shelter so she can really start to thrive.

“I would say that Korra would do best in a calm and patient home that is open to slow introductions with other dogs and will give her the time and space she needs to open up,” Garces said. “Korra was surrendered due to her allergies to certain foods, so someone who is able to keep a specific diet for her is essential.”

Unfortunately, Korra is in danger of being put down because of how scared she is. She needs to be adopted or pulled by a rescue as soon as possible to have a chance at a happy ending.

Right now, Korra is scared and needs a lot of time to warm up to new people. In the right environment, though, with people who love her unconditionally, Korra absolutely has the potential to thrive.

“I know she has the potential to be that wiggly dog someday,” Garces said.
