Woman Finds Senior Dog Lying Next To Cone — Then Realizes What He’s Tethered To

Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, has saved countless abandoned dogs — but one recent call broke her heart, when someone reported finding an old dog in Los Angeles, California, left behind in a disturbing way.

“This poor boy was tied with a screwdriver to an orange cone in a park … for two days,” Hall wrote on Facebook.

For two days, the senior cocker spaniel lay tethered to the cone by a wire and a screwdriver, unable to move beyond the tray of food left by neighbors. Despite leaving food, the neighbors didn’t attempt to save him until a hero stepped in.

“So many people just walked past him … left him lying there in pain, unseen and unloved,” Hall wrote on Facebook.

One of Hall’s volunteers, Mary, raced to the park and approached the downtrodden pup. With treats in hand and a series of gentle praises, Mary won the dog over, and she promptly removed him from his tether.

“Thank God for Mary,” Hall wrote. “She scooped him up in her arms and saved him before something worse happened. That’s when she saw the truth.”

As she got a closer look at the pup, Mary realized he had a severe eye infection that would require medical care. She alerted Hall about the old dog’s health needs, and even though the rescue was stretched thin, Hall couldn’t leave the dog, later named Landon, behind.

“I cannot, I will not, turn away from him,” Hall wrote. “He needs us now.”

Mary drove Landon to the vet while Hall began fundraising for his care. At the vet, Landon’s medical evaluation revealed a severe case of pancreatitis and an ear infection, all of which required immediate treatment.

Thankfully, Hall was able to raise the money needed to save him, and Landon soon began his treatment plan. As heart wrenching as it was to know that Landon was alone in the park in so much pain, Hall and Mary felt grateful that he no longer had to fend for himself.

“The pain he endured out there in that park for two long days just makes me cry,” Hall wrote on Facebook. “[He’s] an older soul who should have been resting his days in comfort and love, not suffering in pain and abandonment.”

Within weeks, Landon’s condition improved, and he soon transformed from a depressed dog to a youthful and playful pup.

“[T]hrough it all, I never gave up on him … and he never gave up, either,” Hall wrote. “He’s gentle, grateful and oh so sweet.”

Since recovering from his illnesses, Landon has found his smile again and is officially ready to find his forever home. Hall’s searching high and low to find the best possible family for sweet Landon, and she’s confident that his perfect match will come along soon.

“After everything he’s endured, it’s finally his time,” Hall wrote. “His time to know love. His time to be cherished. His time to have the life he’s always deserved — not left suffering alone in a park, but held and adored the way he was meant to be.”
